WHY COMPANIES CONTINUE TO TEST ON ANIMALS?

Jo-Anne McArthur | We Animals

In today’s world, animal testing for any stated ‘purpose’ (cosmetics, household items, medical purposes, etc.) is unethical, morally reprehensible, and absolutely unnecessary. Why?⁣

First of all, all animals with a central nervous system are sentient beings, who feel pain and can suffer. Why would we do such horrible things to others, who just want to live freely and without harm like ourselves? It is disgusting and cruel.⁣

Secondly, non-human animals are not like human animals. Experimenting on animals is just bad science. Animal tests DO NOT reliably predict outcomes in humans and the majority of these experiments do not lead to medical advances that improve the health of humans.⁣

So why the hell do companies still test on animals if there are already scientifically advanced human cell-based tests and sophisticated computer models that are often quicker, cheaper, more reliable, and effective?⁣

Good question. I have asked myself the same. This is what I found:⁣

@peta says “Companies are testing on animals to provide data they can use to defend themselves when they are sued by injured consumers. ... Companies use the fact that products have been tested—rather than the actual test results—to support claims that they are conscientious. In most cases, companies settle out of court, preferring to pay the injured consumer rather than bring to light the unreliability of their testing practices..”

@hsiglobal says “When choosing to develop or use new, untested ingredients in their cosmetic products, some companies conduct tests on animals to assess the safety of these new ingredients. This practice is both cruel and unnecessary because companies can create innovative products using thousands of available ingredients that have a history of safe use and do not require any additional testing.”⁣

Remember that it is EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US choosing certain products. We, as consumers, play a huge role in upholding degrading and lethal tests and laws against innocent living beings. It is us keeping this horrible industry alive if we are still paying into it.⁣

If you don’t know much about animal testing, I highly recommend you to check out my blog post “The Cruelty and Absurdity of Animal Testing & Experiments” on my website. It is also available in ➸ German.
