PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY

“It’s peanut butter jelly time!” Yes, a peanut butter and jelly is THE classic snack and dessert. I've been truly obsessed with it recently, after I’ve forgotten about it for a good while. But there is nothing better than a quick to-go snack that combines both salty and sweet.

Prep: 5 min • Makes enough for: 1 person (you probably won’t share)

INGREDIENTS

2 slices of toast (rye & oat toast)
Peanut Butter (palm oil free & vegan)
redberry jam
banana
hemp seeds

PREPARATION

  1. Put peanut butter on one slice of the toast and jam (jelly) on the other side of the toast (as much as you wish). I personally like there to be a bit more peanut butter.

  2. Top it with sliced banana and hemp seeds and you are good to go. It looks so delicious, and it tastes even better.

RECOMMENDATION

Try it with toasted bread or dark bread. This way the peanut butter melts and it's even more mouthwatering. Also: get creative! Try out different jams and toppings like poppy seeds or coconut flakes for hot summer days!

INTERESTING FACTS

Peanut butter actually dates back to Aztec times. The Aztecs mashed roasted peanuts into a paste, somewhat different from what we know of as peanut butter today. The kind of peanut butter we know today was patented in 1884 by Marcellus Gilmore Edson of Canada. In 1895 Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, best known for his invention of cornflakes, patented a process for the production of peanut butter, a food that was marketed as a protein substitute for people without teeth.
