“If we are going to do this, we are going to do this right”

This was what we agreed on. Clothing and other art items with the conscience of animals, people, and the planet in mind is what is so important to us.

There are many obstacles along the way, or rather in the production chain, but we have been and are willing to overcome them all and constantly improve to offer the best solution and the best products. We want to expand our own and consumers’ awareness when it comes to justice for non-human animals, not leaving out other important issues such as human rights and the environment.

In the following paragraphs, we list the ethical standards that we live by and to give you more insight and transparency on what we believe is the future of conscious clothing. ➸

ANIMAL-FREE PRODUCTION

As animal activists, this should go without saying that the products we offer do not include any animal-derived products in the process. Vegan-friendly materials are a basic requirement for us.

We always ask the manufacturers in advance if the materials they produce and use contain animal sources or if the company has animal testing done. We always get this in writing. Only when we have the assurance that they do not use animal sources in their materials or in the dyeing process, we work with them if the quality is also right.

SUSTAINABILITY & STOCK

In addition to the self-explanatory part of animal-free production, an environmentally friendly and conscious production method is close to our hearts, which is why most of our products are made in our home studio.

This gives us the freedom and opportunity to react more quickly to individual desires and needs of our designs and, if necessary, to implement them without overproduction and additional use of materials. This, in turn, keeps our inventories low, but we will of course produce according to demand and regularly reorder in smaller batches.

CONSULTATIONS & AGREEMENTS

All required ingredients and working materials were agreed upon in advance with our suppliers for vegan-friendliness and were checked for their sustainability status. The same applies to third party producers of items in our shop.

FAIR WEAR, LOW WASTE &
CO2 NEUTRAL

The textiles (hoodies, shirts, bags, etc.) are certified Peta-approved vegan clothing, certified by the Fair Wear Foundation for fair working conditions (safety and fair payment) and certified with the Global Organic Textile Standard that no chemicals of concern are used during the cultivation and further processing of the organic cotton.

Some of our products are fully made out of recycled organic cotton and PET bottles and therefore certified with the Global Recycle Standard (GRS)

As for the end of the production chain, the packaging, we, RULE OF NINES, avoid unnecessary plastic packaging and use envelopes made of recycled paper or ship in reused boxes.

We are also always willing to improve. We see ourselves as constantly searching for better opportunities and options in terms of sustainability and climate-friendly shipping, and we want to ensure and share a broader understanding and transparency in the process.

FURTHERMORE …

It is important to say that we don’t believe in gendered clothing, because we think that everyone can and should wear whatever the f* they like and feel comfortable in. That is why everything in our store is unisex even if a certain cut might be labeled “women/men cut” by society.

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

The creation of RULE OF NINES items and products takes a lot of time and especially a lot of patience (... really). Starting with the illustration, continuing to the implementation, and ending with the finished product, we pay attention to so many things along the way including the careful and mindful selection of colors and how different colors and shades of colors interact with each other.

Furthermore, we choose an appropriate embroidery direction of the thread and choice of the stitch which all plays into the finished design (we had to learn the hard way), as well as the harmonious placement of the individual parts on the final product.

Each finished product includes individually designed and repeatedly adjusted steps until we are completely satisfied with it and can fully stand behind it.
