WORLD DOG DAY

Today is World Dog Day and this day is about focusing on the individual characteristics of dog companions. However, another concern is to put the main focus on adoption.⁣

Whether a dog companion and you are compatible does not depend on the coat color, the breed name, the already acquired skills, or the general appearance. However, some people approach breeders with a very specific idea of how “their dog” should be and formally reserve and order their desired “object” which must fit into their lives, without even thinking about the dog. And the worst thing is, most people do not even notice this attitude towards other living beings. ⁣

Blame it on how we grow up with animals or better said how we grow up detached and looking down on animals in our system/world. Since we are little we are taught that one is loved but only if they behave “good” and the other is eaten because it is a “farm animal (livestock).” The categorization and evaluation on which the (life) value of an individual is determined are called speciesism.⁣

Speciesism means that although all living beings have the same basic intentions in life, namely to live in peace, freedom, love, and security, discriminatory circumstances created through humans deprive them of these rights and therefore end fatally for many.⁣

It is due to the profit motive of breeders, breeding programs, and pet sales facilities that animals in shelters are still viewed and communicated as “less valuable” by being labeled “difficult, challenging, and complicated.” When in fact, breeders are to blame for the numerous animals in shelters being there in the first place because they were abandoned when they were no longer profitable or left to die.⁣

The purchase of a companion animal is the indicator of an uncaring and deadly industry and ongoing suffering.⁣

If you are serious about caring for another sentient being, raising them lovingly, compassionately, and competently for their safety and in their own best interest by living up to their nature, then accept and adopt someone who recognizes someone in you to whom they entrust their life. #adoptdontshop
