RACCOON DOG FUR

Raccoon dogs are bred, caged, abused and horribly killed for their fur.⁣

Raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides), also called “tanuki” or “enok,” are wild (free-living and non-domesticated), omnivorous and nocturnal animals and belong to the dog family, originally from East Asia.⁣

Today, raccoon dogs are native to the forests of eastern Siberia, northern China, northern Vietnam, Korea, and Japan, and are widely distributed in some European countries after being accidentally released or escaping.⁣

They live in pairs (monogamous) or small groups and their natural habitat is in woodland and forest areas close to the water. They are pretty comfortable in marshes and ponds, where they often forage for food. Due to convergent evolution, the raccoon dog has similarities with martens and small bears, especially with the raccoon, with whom, however, they are not closely related.⁣

Raccoon dogs fall victim to the fur factory-farming industry. China and Finland supply the majority of the world’s raccoon dog fur and ship it across the globe. ⁣

Unable to engage in their natural behaviors in this cramped, barren, and filthy environment, they become mentally distressed and begin to hurt themselves and others, suffering tremendously from infected wounds.⁣

Around the age of 8 months, when they have their first-ever winter coats, raccoon dogs get killed for their fur by stripping off their skin and hair when still conscious, after getting gassed to death, or briefly after a head-to-tail (anal) electrocution. In some countries, they are stunned by banging their heads and bodies on the floor.⁣

Fur is often deliberately mislabeled as synthetic fur because synthetic sources are often more expensive.
To ease the conscience of buyers who sympathize with dogs, the fur of the raccoon dog is called Finnish raccoon, raccoon, or even “faux,” which it certainly is not.⁣

It must also be said that animals on farmed (fur) farms stay cramped in confined spaces, making them an ideal host for dangerous diseases.⁣

Stop buying fur and faux fur! Hold others accountable! Get active! Educate!⁣
