NATURAL COLORS
Animals have beautiful coat colors, white, black, tan, maroon, brown, even pink, blue and fluorescent, and many more. Most colors, if not genetically modified or purposefully bred for centuries, serve a very specific purpose.
There are several reasons why animals have evolved different coats, feathers, scales, and skin colors. They can for example help individuals hide from danger. Certain colors help to advertise services like grooming to animals of other species, to signal their sexual status, or to warn others.
If that’s not pure perfection of nature, how it works and interconnects everything, I don’t know what is.
Even though domesticated animals no longer depend on their fur color to survive (since those traits have been bred away), they can suffer psychologically and, of course, physically when someone dyes their hair or alters their bodies. Their bodies are forcibly modified by having healthy body parts tattooed or arbitrarily cut off to an unnatural state. Over this, they have no control.
Apart from ignoring the bodily autonomy of animal individuals, their dignity is completely abused and their modification serves exclusively selfish reasons of human entertainment and amusement. Namely, a human ideal of how to oppress others to fit in and stand out.
They, the sufferers, are forgotten and ironically disregarded, except for the mere conspicuousness.
Animals are so fascinating! Everything about them is unique, serving its purpose, which need not serve a purpose for us.
Why do we humans think we can do whatever we want to others? Why do we so often feel the need to oppress others to profit from the pain, suffering, and death of others? Why do we constantly think and allow ourselves to be persuaded that we are superior to others? And why do we never think about the consequences of our actions on others?
Why can’t we just be grateful for being here, and why don’t we strive to live in harmony with our morals and values by living in peace with other earthlings and nature? Why do we always want to change everyone and everything? This, I wonder.
