CRAPPY NEW YEAR?
Year after year, people set off fireworks and firecrackers, adding to an already polluted planet during a serious and ongoing climate catastrophe.
Pyrotechnics proponents claim that firing fireworks poses no danger or harm to non-human animals, the environment, or fellow humans. However, local fine particulate measurements, countless videos and reports of animal companions suffering from fear, distress, and anxiety (due to the sudden noise and unnatural flashing lights), and videos of the environmentally damaging aftermath of New Year's Eve show the exact opposite of what pyrotechnics proponents claim.
Traditions can and must be celebrated differently nowadays and do not depend on colorful lights in the sky (quoting “letting the sky burn”), which are fired completely thoughtlessly to take advantage of the fool’s freedom and destructiveness of the day.
Decide to put your ego aside and put your entertainment on the back burner for once so that others are not unnecessarily exposed to stress, anxiety, and health concerns. The time has long since come when we say goodbye to old harmful habits and embrace new, animal-friendly, and environmentally friendly habits in our lives.
Instead of wasting our money on fireworks and firecrackers, we can instead buy candles, reusable glow sticks, or strings of lights. We can also have a cozy bonfire in great company with plant-based snacks and drinks and good music.

We have to do better!
IF YOU LIVE WITH A COMPANION, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING
Never leave your animal companion at home alone. Stay by their side. Fears can arise suddenly.
To protect your companions, please double secure them with your leash on New Year's Day. Keep walks to a minimum.
If you can, spend New Year’s Eve outside of big cities in quiet areas or places free of fireworks. In Vienna, there is the option to book a hotel room at the airport for the night!
