CATS IN LABS
Did you know that cats and their kittens are still exploited and cruelly abused in animal testing?

So many of us care for cat companions at home (hopefully adopted from a shelter), but not many of us are aware that the brothers and sisters of our companions we love so much are being horribly abused and tortured in animal testing labs as we speak.
Cat individuals, either bred for the very purpose of being sold to labs or are taken from animal shelter’s killing stations, continue to be caged, exploited, tortured, and killed in animal cruelty laboratories or schools for classroom dissection.
But why?
Although cats are not used in research as frequently as other animal species, they are being used as test subjects for certain human-related medical conditions. Their relatively long life expectancy of 20 years also makes them a convenient and "great" model to exploit age-related and slowly developing diseases and conditions.
What are cats used for? What is done to them?
@peta says “In auditory studies, cats have their ears cut off and are locked in restraint chairs so that their brain activity can be measured in response to different sounds. In stroke experiments, blood flow to the cats’ brains or eyes is blocked, causing a stroke. In vision experiments, cats are raised in darkness, have one or both eyes sewn shut, or have their eyes removed.”
Also, certain chemicals are tested on innocent cats, causing horrific wounds, burns, and seizures, to explore the short-term and long-term consequences. Furthermore, electrodes are placed inside felines as part of constipation and bladder research.
Can you imagine being abused for 20 years for experiments and testing that could be done differently? It’s a horrible and very oppressive thought. Imagine how it must feel if you were in the skin of these victims?
