TATTOOING PIGS

Have you ever seen a pig getting tattooed before?

Just yesterday I came across this image of the “tools series” by @timostammberger while researching tattooing practices on animals.⁣

I got to learn that the method of tattooing animals is common in the animal industry, but I never dared to look deeper to research How it is done. I knew the results would disgust me to my core and let me tell you one thing: they did and they will disgust you too.⁣

The tools that are shown in the post are a tattoo hammer and ink, which are “used for permanent tattooing of slaughter pigs for identification purposes. The pigs are hit with the hammer on both sides of their body before being transported to the slaughterhouse”, this is how it is described on Timo Stammberger’s website.⁣

Beating animals and intentionally inflicting pain for one’s purpose is an act of violence, we don’t need to discuss that further.⁣ When it comes to taking someone’s life against their will many get into a moral conflict, because deep inside they know that this act is called murder and it too is an act of violence. However, some think that this act of injustice is acceptable and justifiable in some cases. But is it? ⁣

If the individuals we consume carelessly were dogs and cats, would we use the same arguments we think we know for chickens, cows, pigs, fish, etc.?⁣

What if I told you that I hit dogs and mark them with a painful tattoo, but aside from that fact they live a happy life until I decide to kill them for my sensual pleasure, my taste? How would that make you feel?⁣ What would You think of Me? Wouldn’t you start to argue that I don’t have to consume their flesh? Wouldn’t you start to argue with me about how those dogs value their life?⁣

If you don’t want animals to get hurt, you already understand animal rights and animal ethics. You already have a sense of justice.⁣

The only reason that holds you back is your perception until you realize that there is no moral difference that determines and therefore establishes the value of animal life. You were told that some are of no value and some are of moral value, but how do You really feel about it?⁣
